Taliesin Spring Green WI
From Frank Lloyd Wright’s Riverview Cafe, I’ll be in conversation with Keefe Keeley of Savanna Institute and Odessa Piper, chef, pioneer in farm to table cooking and now associated with Taliesin’s Food Artisan Immersion Program.
Garver Feed Mill Madison WI
A Midwest foodie book tour without a stop in Madison Wisconsin is unthinkable. Lucky me. I’m being hosted by Garver Events for a public event at Garver Feed Mill and book sales will be supported by Leopold’s of Madison. Drinks, snacks, a reading- all the good stuff on Friday night the 8th. Here is the link to my event.
Lula Cafe Logan Square Chicago
Jason Hammel, chef owner of Lula Cafe and long time supporter of local farms along with Chandra Ram, former editor-in-chief of Plate Magazine will join me for a discussion about the enduring joys of cooking with the seasons and what the future holds for restaurants in this new pandemic world. This is a ticketed event for vaccinated attendees. Books will be on sale at the event.
Gramercy Books in Bexley Ohio
My first stop on a sweep through the Midwest will be at Gramercy Books, chatting with Amy Bodiker Baskes, an old friend and a deep thinker about food and ag issues. This is a ticketed event and open to all (vaccinated) lovers of food and books. Signing post-conversation
Archestratus in Greenpoint BK
This is the inaugural live reading in Paige Lipari’s new digs! Kate Lebo, author of The Book of Difficult Fruit and I will be volleying questions and comments about how our books both weave natural science, cooking and memoir into interesting personal journeys. The $5 entry includes one of Paige’s delicious signature arancine and what I promise will be a fun conversation.
Hillsdale General Store
Riding my bicycle solo from New Jersey to Stockbridge at age 14 earned the Berkshires a permanent place in my heart. This reading at the Hillsdale General Store brings it full circle (although travel is by car this time). I’ll demonstrate my recipe from the book for “this sauce is the pits”, serve it with a piece of stone fruit tart and read an excerpt or two. Proof of vaccination required. Details here. The purchase of a $30 ticket includes a signed copy.
The Prairie Whale
Mark Firth and his team will be making garden herb Negronis, crostini platters will abound. Ruth Reichl and I will talk about restaurants past, present, and future. Guaranteed good time out on the patio!
Huertas
Savoy lives on in certain houses across the city and Huertas is certainly one of them. Jonah Miller, former Savoy and Back Forty cook is hosting a very Savoy-ish event—wines generously poured by Elevation Wines partner (and former Savoy general manager) Gil Avital, with accompanying Huertas riffs on ingredients and recipes described in the book. Jonah and I will converse about cooking, running restaurants in this pivotal moment and celebrate the September bounty of the market. Limited ticket availability. Tickets are $40 including food and drink.

When Two Books Go Walking
Push through your Zoom fatigue; this one is going to be special. I am teaming up with Kate Lebo, author of The Book of Difficult Fruit and we’ll facilitate a conversation between our two books. Both blend memoir, natural science and cooking, as if companion travelers. In tandem, they are far greater than the sum of their parts. A virtual affair.
The Queensboro
The Savoy diaspora sent folks out into many New York counties, Queens among them. Michael Fuquay’s, The Queensboro has won the hearts of the Jackson Heights community and I am thrilled to be making an appearance there. The Q team will be preparing Savoy small plates for purchase, shaking some classic Back Forty cocktails. I’ll read choice bits from the book and sign copies. Reservations are recommended. Should be a good time!
Southold General Ice Cream Social
At 6PM, John Fraser’s new café and provisions shop, Southold General, will turn into a gelato cocktail party. I’ll be on the patio, read a short excerpt, sign copies of the book all while balancing a dripping cone in one hand.
8 Hands Farm Breakfast Book Signing
Drop by Carol Festa and Tom Geppel’s beautiful 8 Hands Farm on Saturday morning. I’ll be signing books and enjoying the pinnacle crossover moment of summer into fall, when tomatoes and squashes, peppers and peaches, shell beans and string beans can be paired for stellar meals.
Wellspent Market Collaboration
EVERYONE’S A WINNER
I’m always interested in tapping into new sources and meeting others equally passionate about taste. The Portland folks who run Wellspent Market are kin, bringing a history of caring about ingredients to their sourcing not unlike mine. They specialize in all the larder goods necessary to turn an improvisational buying spree of seasonal ingredients into a stellar meal: single estate olive oils, dried beans and whole grains from small Pacific Northwest farms, tinned fish, single origin spices, sea salts and preserved fruits. I’ve teamed up with them to introduce all of you to their grand array. You can win "Pete's Picks," a customized box of my selections valued at $220, when you subscribe to their newsletter here. Winner of my basket or not, after tasting Wellspent Market ingredients, as the carney hawker says, “Everyone’s a winner!”
MOFAD: In Conversation with Amanda Cohen
7PM virtual conversation with Amanda Cohen, chef owner of Dirt Candy
I’ll be having a conversation with Amanda Cohen, chef owner of Dirt Candy, the all vegetable restaurant on the Lower East Side. Can a restaurant be a driver of social change? What does sustainable mean to us today? In the kitchen, at the stove how do we think about creating a delicious plate?

Antipodean Books
David and Cathy Lilburne have started hosting their Friday night gatherings on the porch again. In collaboration with Dolly’s, their restaurant neighbor, they’ll be hosting a signing and conversation with Dolly’s chef/owner Shelley Boris (and long time friend of mine). It’s a full moon. Come on out!

McNally Jackson
The Venn diagram of Savoy and McNally Jackson customers is a very robust intersection. In my second bookstore swing by, I’ll be outside the store on those wonderful blue benches underneath the sliver elm trees from the late afternoon into early evening. Sarah, Marty and the gang will have plenty of books on hand.
52 Prince St.
Marlow and Sons
Casual and informal. Andrew and his team will be serving their usual fine selection of natural wines, I’ll be signing books, hanging out and maybe if we’re lucky Caroline will make a couple of her amazing potato tortillas that never fail to keep us coming back for another splash in the glass.

Book Signing at Union Square Greenmarket
Union Square is my zocolo, where so much of the book occurs and chock full of growers who taught me so much of what’s in the book. There is no farmers market like it. Come for the book, stay for the verve.

Three Lives Books & Company
Currently in temporary digs on West 10th St, Three Lives is the place where I’ve bought more books suggested by employees than ones I found on my own. The quintessential home of the enlightened browse. In-store events are still a few months out, so I’ll be sitting outside the shop signing books and hanging out for a few hours. Come by and say hello. Signed copies will be available at the shop starting on the 8th.
